In short

  • Language: sessions in English (or Swedish, if you prefer).
  • Format: online by video, from anywhere in Sweden.
  • With: Mikael Glännström, master's degree in psychology and certified coach.
  • Not: therapy, diagnosis or treatment – for that, contact your health centre.

Who you talk to

You talk with Mikael Glännström, who founded CoachOnline.se. Every session is with him personally – there is no queue and no hand-over to someone else.

Mikael has a master's degree in psychology (fil. mag.) and is a certified coach. He is the author of the Swedish book Välmåendecoach – För en ljusare framtid. He is not a licensed psychologist or psychotherapist, and he does not make diagnoses. If what you describe needs care, he will tell you so and help you find the right place instead.

Coaching is not therapy

Coaching is for people who basically function but want to move forward. Therapy is healthcare: it treats mental illness such as depression, trauma or eating disorders, and in Sweden it is carried out by licensed staff. The titles psychologist (legitimerad psykolog) and psychotherapist (legitimerad psykoterapeut) are protected by law.

If you are unsure which of the two you need, read psychologist, therapist or coach in Sweden. If you have symptoms that affect your daily life, start with your local health centre (vårdcentral) – here is how to get mental health help in Sweden.

Who coaching in English is for

It is for people living in Sweden who would rather talk in English – whether you came here for work, studies or family, or have lived here for years. Some common reasons to book:

  • Stress at work, or a workplace culture that works differently from what you are used to.
  • Returning to work after sick leave, and wanting a plan that holds.
  • Habits, sleep and routines that have slipped.
  • Setting boundaries – at work, in a relationship or with family far away.
  • A life change that has left you unsure of direction.

Questions about coaching in English

Do you offer coaching in English?

Yes. Mikael Glännström coaches in both English and Swedish. Sessions take place online by video, so you can join from anywhere in Sweden.

Is coaching the same as therapy?

No. Therapy is healthcare and treats mental illness such as depression, trauma or eating disorders. Coaching is for people who basically function but want to move forward with habits, stress, boundaries or direction in life. Coaching does not diagnose or treat anything.

Is Mikael a licensed psychologist?

No. Mikael has a master's degree in psychology (fil. mag.) and is a certified coach, but he is not a licensed psychologist or psychotherapist. In Sweden those titles are protected by law and require a licence from the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen).

Who is coaching in English for?

It is for people living in Sweden who prefer to talk in English – for example people who have moved here for work, studies or family. Many of the questions are about life in Sweden itself: work culture, sick leave, stress, and finding your way in a new system.

Do I need a referral?

No. Coaching is not healthcare, so there is no referral and it does not go through your health centre. If you need care, contact your health centre (vårdcentral) or call 1177.

How do I book a session in English?

Use the booking section on this page. You can also email kontakt@coachonline.se and write that you would like a session in English.

Can coaching help with exhaustion disorder?

Coaching cannot treat exhaustion disorder (utmattningssyndrom) – that belongs in healthcare. Alongside care, coaching can be support with what surrounds recovery, such as planning a return to work, setting boundaries and building sustainable routines.

In an emergency, call 112. Mind Självmordslinjen, the suicide helpline, is open 24 hours a day on 90101. Coaching is not the right help in an acute crisis.
